COTABATO CITY: A bomb exploded at a Sultan Kudarat bus station on Sunday morning, December 11, killing a civilian and wounding 11, including two members of the military.
A report from Joint Task Force Central said a unit of the Yellow Bus Line traveling from Kidapawan City to Tacurong City via Mlang and Tulunan was rocked by the blast as it made its way to the station.Right after the bus entered the public terminal at Purok Duranta, Barangay Poblacion, Tacurong City, the bomb, which was believed to be an improvised explosive device, exploded inside the terminal.The bus with body number 2588 was carrying 29 passengers.The explosion resulted in the instantaneous death of one civilian passenger, identified as Gilbert Gabosa, male, 56 years old, and a resident of Carmen, North Cotabato.It also caused injuries to nine other civilian passengers and two soldiers.”We condemn this act to the highest degree. This is a cowardly act of the terrorist group and peace spoilers that put the lives of innocent civilians in danger and doing so is a violation of both human rights and international humanitarian law. In this regard, we are working with PNP (Philippine National Police) investigators to neutralize these terrorists,” Maj. Gen. Roy Galido, commander of Joint Task Force Central, said.He did not name the terrorist group.”We will exert efforts so that we can identify who are the culprits behind this incident and pursue proper actions according to law,” Galido said.Troops assigned to the area immediately secured the place while a team from a bomb disposal unit was called in.”We hope for the speedy recovery of the injured civilians who were immediately brought to the nearest hospital for proper medical care and treatment. While we already have a lead on the possible perpetrators, we will continue our investigation to accurately identify and pursue these heartless attackers. We will not stop hunting down the perpetrators to bring them to the bar of justice. We continue to intensify our internal security efforts to counter similar incidents that put at risk the lives of innocent civilians,” Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, acting commander of the Western Mindanao Command, said.
