THE Commission on Appointments’ (CA) transportation committee on Tuesday approved the ad interim appointment of Jaime Bautista as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DoTr).
Two other CA panels also approved separately the ad interim appointments of Jose Acuzar as secretary of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development and Arsenio Balisacan as secretary of the National Economic and Development Authority.
They will later face the CA plenary for the final approval of their respective appointments
Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, CA chairman, endorsed for plenary approval Bautista’s confirmation.
Zubiri described Bautista as a “responsible and reputable fellow” who “does not need to go through the learning curve.” He said that Bautista “knows his stuff even when he is sleeping.”

“He thinks about the transport problem in the country and we need him now because of the traffic congestion because of the Christmas season. We need him to focus on his job,” he added.
Bautista vowed to support Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito’s proposed master plan for infrastructure development and transportation modernization.
Bautista said he will endorse the senator’s proposal to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. “We will tell po the President that we need to really do a long-term planning for all our infrastructure projects.”
In July, Ejercito filed Senate Bill 158 which seeks to create and institutionalize a comprehensive infrastructure development master plan.
