CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama has declared the suspension of classes in all levels for Friday, amid the declaration of a yellow rainfall warning in the area due to Tropical Storm “Paeng.”

“Pursuant to DepEd Order No. 37 Guidelines on Cancellation and Suspension of Classes particularly Paragraph 4 thereof, and in consonance with Office of the Mayor, Cebu City Executive Order No. 1, Series of 2022, as Local Chief Executive, I am declaring CANCELLATION of classes in all levels,” Rama said in a memo posted by the Cebu City Public Information Office in its Facebook page on Friday.

Rama further declared the suspension of classes in a video posted in the said Facebook page.

“With continuing not-so-good weather, as mayor of the city of Cebu, I’m bringing safety, security and order as priority, I’m declaring the cancellation of classes,” he said in the video. “So that all will be home.”

In Naga City, Mayor Nelson “Son” Legacion also posted on Facebook the suspension of classes and work in the city.

“For the safety of our students, I have declared the suspension of classes in all levels in public and private schools in the city of Naga City on Friday, October 28, 2022, until lifted,” Legacion wrote in Bicolano.

Naga City is under storm signal number one from “Paeng.”

“In view of tropical storm ‘Paeng’ that is expected to bring intense to torrential rains over Bicol Region today through tomorrow, work in public and private establishments and offices is hereby ordered suspended immediately, except for agencies and offices whose functions involve delivery of basic and health services, disaster response and preparedness, and other vital services,” Legacion wrote in a separate post.

Sorsogon Gov. Edwin Hamor also declared a suspension of classes for the entire province, in a memo published by its public information office on Thursday.

In Zamboanga City, Mayor John Dalipe had ordered the suspension of classes in all levels, while work will continue for the day.

“Mayor John Dalipe orders suspension of classes in all levels, both public and private schools, in Zamboanga City today, October 28, 2022, as the city continues to experience scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms due to tropical storm Paeng,” the city government wrote in its Facebook page. “Work will continue as usual. Please be guided.”

Northern Samar Gov. Edwin Ongchuan had also ordered the suspension of classes for his province.

“At the advice of Pagasa, Governor Edwin Ongchuan declared the suspension of classes in all levels tomorrow, October 28, 2022, due to Tropical Storm Paeng,” wrote their public information office on Thursday.

On Thursday, Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez told The Juan Kabayan that classes are suspended in the city for Friday.
